What do sessions look like?
Sessions are generally 55 minutes long and are currently facilitated via tele-health. The first 1-2 sessions are designed for intake and information gathering, ultimately leading to the collaborative creation of an individualized treatment plan. I utilize an integrated approach that meets clients where they currently are; therefore sessions can include psycho-education, processing, mindfulness based practices, reframing and challenging negative beliefs and more depending on the goals at hand.
Do I need therapy?
We all benefit from therapy! It's your space that you devote weekly for healing, growth and processing, all accomplished at your own pace. Whether you want to process and prepare for life transitions, manage imposter syndrome, develop healthier relationships, further understand how to deal with ADHD or anxiety, heal from severe trauma, the answer is yes.
Do you prescribe medication?
As a Licensed Clinical Therapist I am unable to prescribe medication. Psychiatrist, Medical Doctors and Nurse Practitioners are examples of professionals that do prescribe medication. I am, however, a firm advocate for MAT (Medication Assisted Treatment) and if medication is apart of your mental health treatment, I will thoroughly explore options with you!
What was your path to becoming a therapist?
Childhood hood adversity that dealt many life lessons, along with a lifelong infatuation with the mind and behavior inspired me to pursue Psychology in college. Witnessing the impact that therapy had on the populations I served after undergraduate studies confirmed my decision to obtain a Master's Degree and consequent licensure in Mental Health Counseling. Many people struggle with mental health issues but are hesitant to get started or simply don't know how and I yearn to be a beacon of light as I guide them through their journey. I chose this path because I want to be a part of changing the narrative surrounding mental health and the stigma associated with it. I want to provide effective treatment to anyone who struggles with mental health concerns but I am especially dedicated to raising awareness and providing treatment to underserved populations, particularly people of color. Let's normalize self-care together!
What should someone know about working with you?
I want everyone who works with me to know that I provide a comfortable space for therapy: You will feel free to roam through uncomfortable emotions, explore trauma, gain increased insight, and process daily stressors in a way that feels both human and intentional. There will be light moments as well as heavy ones as we work towards your therapeutic goals. I'm a son, husband, father, brother, therapist and above all, a human being whom integrates these experiences as well as my personality and therapeutic modalities into your sessions to ensure a strong therapeutic relationship that allows you to be your most vulnerable and authentic self in session.
How do your core values shape your approach to therapy?
I strongly invest in the belief that we are byproducts of our environment and upbringing. With further exploration and acceptance, we can learn in greater detail who we are, what we need, and how we came to be so that we may introduce healthy coping mechanisms and influence change. Our values are our own unique moral compasses that guide us throughout life, influencing our sense of purpose and level of satisfaction. As an immigrant and POC, some common values that impact my therapeutic approach include cultural competency, empathy, integrity, gratitude, spirituality and much more. These are a few of the values that seep into the many targeted interventions and interactions throughout treatment.
